My perspective on dating over 40

Dating Online
Reading AEvans hub about dating over 40 inspired me to reply with my own personal experiences. I agree with the comment about lack of commitment from people dating online. However I can also understand why men in particular lie on their profile to attract potential partners.
I've been a member on a free dating site for about 18 months, I've had messages from less than 10 interested women so far. I have sent numerous emails, too many to count but rarely get a reply at all. I wondered if this was a common trend so I asked a few of my friends about their experiences only to find they had already had more dates than me within the first week.
Why is this you might ask, well they are female, they get around 50 messages a day from what they call "pervy men" so sifting through to find someone they like the look of is the only hardship they have rather than constant rejection. Dating sites put people in categories making selections based on a range of criteria not least of which is age.
Many members look for someone who is within a set age range the categories being set by the web site designer will often mean you lose out because you are just outside the range you are interested in. For example I am 41 looking for ladies in the range slightly younger than myself but often these women will select categories like 35-40 or 25 to 35 so giving the correct information means I am not even on their search list and so do not show for them to click on my profile.
Personally I don't agree with changing your details, bending the truth so I always make sure everything I put is bang on me. Maybe that's why I don't get anyone interested after all its like your marketing page I suppose to see your self to a potential partner.
Paid Dating Sites
I have had more luck with paid dating sites, maybe because of the explicit nature of the content and the honesty in my profile, I don't know. Saying that its only been cyber so far nothing for real although one did offer to meet a while back.
I would be really intersted to hear about other peoples experiences, in particular if they have found the same issue with being a man limiting the opportunities when compared with women dating online.
I have one success story at the moment but I'll leave that for another hub some time soon.
