What is Love? Baby Don't Hurt Me No More
66Why does love Hurt
Think of the song; What is Love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more. Why do we all say we love each other but then follow with a hurtful comment or deed? Finding love is a social practice adopted due to the impact of society on our daily lives. Why do we all seek love, or a loving relationship?
Is it because that is our goal in life to love and be loved, or something more, is love truly an emotion we all instinctively feel when we are with our with our partner.
In the natural world animals compete with their opposition for the acceptance of a potential suitor of the opposite sex. The mating ritual is there simply to promote natural selection ensuring the best individuals mate and giving the highest chance of survival of the species.
Applying the same principles to the human race why do we allow physically inferior individuals to mate and produce further inferior offspring who are a burden on society? Social ethics prevent us from restricting or even eliminating those who are not in peak physical condition.
Why do we live in a way which is not necessarily the best strategy for the survival of our species? Or maybe its our mental prowess that we are selecting for rather than physical performance. Why do we utilise so many resources keeping a child alive who has no chance of a normal life, mentally impaired and physically disabled?
It must be love, the way we care for our offspring and that of others. The emotions side of the human race is surely what differentiates our actions from the rest of the animal kingdom. Now think on are we really so different, are emotions just ours or is it the way we condition ourselves socially which makes us stand out (according to us of course).
We fall in love and mate, produce offspring and care for them, but what about those who leave. Isn't the bond tight enough or is it the social pressure which keeps couples together. In reality the best way to perpetuate the human species is through sexual intercourse, the mixing of our genes and further development of our species.
Monogamous behaviour could in actual fact threaten the future of our species so why is it that so many of us frown on casual sex and swinging parties?
Maybe society is concerned that the risk of infection could put a blight on the species. Or maybe its the risk they think you may be putting them under if you reproduce yourself more than they do. The people in charge, politicians, kings, ecclesiastic rulers cannot reproduce enough to dominate the world with their offspring. Maybe that is why they use the world of social ethics, laws, constitutions and other teachings to manage or rather control the behaviour of those who are in the society they control.

I think it means something different to everyone. God knows. i just found out my husband slept with my 21 year old daughter. Now what do I do? But he says he loves me..Yea right.
lombardoindiana,
While I am not condoning what your husband did you should probably look at this the other way as well. "Your 21 year old daughter slept with your husband!"
As the old saying goes, it takes two to tango. Have you talked to your daughter about this? Was she forced in any way? What gives here?

interesting that you ask a lot of questions, you don't presume to know it all. Love cannot be easily defined, and some of the questions you asked I ask myself every day.
I liked, especially the bit about caring for those of us who don't seem to have much of a chance at life instead of the alternative. I personally believe that every human being has this something inside them that yearns for more. This yearning gives us hope, and allows us to treat each person the way we'd all want to be treated.
Sure you might be more successful than your neighbor (for example) but we each know that we will strive to do our best to make something of our lives in whatever situation we're in.
Questions are a good way to get people thinking, so I thought this was very good

it's very diffult to understand "what love is".. I think that we have to accept it as it is and don't try to explain it!!
